All about U: journalists Anna Staver and Joe St. George

The Colorado Secretary of State’s office delivered wooden U’s to Colorado newsmakers and news reporters to inform them about its UChooseCO campaign for unaffiliated voters, who can now participate in primary elections with affiliating with one party or the other.

We’re not sure why Joe St. George, a reporter with FOX31 Denver and Channel 2 News, has his initials upside down on his U, but check out that smile. (He said he can’t explain why he came out looking a Trumpish shade of orange in the shot.)

Anna Staver, a producer at KUSA-TV, went with a totally Colorado look: blue skies, mountains and camping, including a tent that looks like the state flag. The wooden U went to 9News political reporter Brandon Rittiman, who is busy planning a governor’s debate and a move to California, so Staver took over decorating duties from him.

“Maybe this ‘U’ will finally motivate to spend our first night in the wild as a family of four … ,” she said in her tweet highlighting the U.

Secretary of State Wayne Williams is handing out the U’s as part of the UChooseCO campaign, which stresses to unaffiliated voters that they will receive both the Democratic and Republican ballots but they have to pick just one ballot. They can’t, for example, vote for a Democratic candidate for governor and a Republican candidate for treasurer.

Those who received U’s were informed they could indicate their values when decorating or  just have fun. Some clerks highlighted their counties.
